The Perfect Tour for Beginners: Mount Michie Tour

This tour is tailored for beginners with little to no riding experience. We start with a small tour around the farm giving you the opportunity to get to know your horse step by step. The next day we get used to riding in the bush and in moderate terrain. After these quiet days we go on our overnight tour that guests have demanded more than ever. You will already feel safe in the saddle, trust your four-legged partner and together traverse the stunning surroundings of Mount Michie. Together we will reach the summit of Mount Michie, where you will find a breathtaking view of thousands of square kilometers of wilderness, lakes, mountains and valleys.

We camp just below the summit for the night and enjoy a delicious meal around the camp fire. After spending the night in tents, the next day takes us downhill observing wildlife and enjoying the company of our horses. Back on the farm we expect great food in a relaxing atmosphere and a comfortable bed in the cabin. The last day is your day to do as you wish.

You will receive individual attention from a guide for two to four guests in a family atmosphere.

The years 2015 and 2016 it appears that customized tour dates were requested really often. For this reason we decided to give no fixed tour dates, but we like to fit our schedule to the needs of our guests. We start our multi day trips at May 28th, 2017 and close at October 1st, 2017. But there are bookings available before and after these dates with overnights only in our cabins and not in tents. (multi day trips).

Dates for our Itsi Mountain tour we agree on application in July and August 2017.

1st day

We pick you up in Whitehorse and take you to the Mount Michie Farm located 60 km south of Whitehorse. After a thorough briefing for riding and the handling of our horses, adjust the saddles/equipment, we start with a first ride around the farm. This is to get everyone familiarized with their four-legged partner and be prepared for the next day another. After all this the day comes to an end with a hearty meal in a relaxed atmosphere and spending the night in one of our cabins.

2nd day

After breakfast we saddle our horses and head out and break after several hours of riding on a secondary summit of Mount Michie. We pass through centuries-old, boreal primeval forests, see the diverse vegetation and watch birds such as grouse, eagles, owls and a variety of songbirds. Squirrels accompany us throughout the day. We reach the pre-summit with a beautiful view over Marsh Lake. There we treat our horses to a break and take our lunch. Downhill we run some passages to relieve our four-legged partners and make our way towards the farm through the wilderness. Once there, we take care of horses and equipment. The day ends with a dinner and talks in a relaxed atmosphere around the camp fire.

3rd & 4th day

Today we start our riding tour in one of the most remote and beautiful wilderness areas on earth leading us to wonderful vantage points and hidden lakes. In the late afternoon we reach the summit of Mount Michie which reveals an unique view of a variety of landscapes and mountain ranges. In the evening we set up our camp below the summit and cozy up next to the camp fire with a delicious meal.

The next morning begins with breakfast around the camp fire as it were accustomed to the cowboys and pioneers of the West. Then we saddle up and pack our four-legged friends in direction of the farm. In the evening we expect good food and relax around a camp fire or take a walk around the farm.

3rd day

Today we start our tour lasting for several days in the wilderness around Mount Michie leading us to the wonderful vantage points and hidden lakes through Yukon’s beautiful landscape. We arrive at our camp at the foot of Mount Michie in the afternoon and provide for our horses while we set up camp. We enjoy the evening atmosphere while eating around the camp fire with a view to the summit and spend the night in tents.

4th to 8th day

After breakfast we saddle our horses and start the tours in this unique and untouched nature. We ride through valleys, streams, and cross mountain ridges while enjoying the silence, remoteness and fantastic views. We hike to the summit of Mount Michie on foot because the terrain becomes too steep and rocky for our four-legged companions. The magnificent view from the top gives us unforgettable impressions of distance, wilderness and originality and we admire the distant landscapes and mountain ranges. Grouse, eagles, owls, and a variety of songbirds are frequently observed. Squirrels are always there and sometimes moose, bear or caribou.

9th day

The day of return to the farm has come. After breakfast we pack and saddle our horses and wind our way towards the valley through the wilderness. Facing a lake and a small meadow we take a break and treat all our guests and enjoy the silence. Back in the “civilization” we provide for our horses whom have become a great friend after our time together in the bush.

At dinner we enjoy conversation about the experience of the trip.
